A. Introduction :-
We all know that the development of a
nation is exclusively based on the status of the child it's simply means that
children are the assets/property of the nation.
But in reality there are various social
evils practices in the society and child labour is one of those Evil practice.
Child labour is in existence from the
period of early human beings, we will discuss the meaning of child labour
,child work ,it's prevention, difference between child labour and child work
etc etc in the below section.
B. Meaning of child labour and child work:-
--> First we will see the meaning of child labour
According to definition of International
Labour Organisation (I.L.O.) - child labour is defined as that work which leads
to deprivation of one childhood and education opportunities.
In India child labour is conventionally
defined as working child between age
5-14 years who are doing labour job or engaged in any economic activity
either paid or unpaid.
Child labour also negatively
affect the child's physical and mental development.
--> Now we will look at the meaning of child work--
Child work is that activity or work or job
that helps children to be productive
and
helps in achieving
experience and skills.
Here children are not focusing on money making shortcuts,
his/her main focus is
to get the experiences and knowledge.
C. What are included in child labour and child work :-
Child labour includes below activity---
(i) Engaging in a small factory or industry
which is not regulated --
like Bidi factory, tobacco factory ,
firecracker factory ,illegal alcohol
factory etc etc
(ii) engaging in any household activity ---
like
working as a servant at Hotel, house ,farming etc etc
(iii) engaging in any construction work
like in building construction, Cement
factory.
(iv) engaging in any criminal activity
like robbery ,gambling ,begging inside
train-buses etc etc
---> Child work includes below activity---
Child work includes playing, singing, dancing, acting, cooking,
studying, drawing,
painting ,crafting and all the other
activity which does not force to neglect childhood
for generating money .
D. Is the child labour and child work is a good practice or a bad practice:-
--> First we will see the nature of child labour ----
The nature of child labour is very
complicated ,it is one of the controversial
issues exists in this world, generally the
rich people will against the child
labour but the poor people supports the child
labour.
Child labour exists because of the
bellow never ending cycle –

We can see from the above
diagram that-- child labour exists because of lack of education and lack of
education exists because of poverty again because of poverty child labour exists and the cycle
continuous....
Mostly the government has declared child
labour as a bad practice but if we see from the point of view of a poor family
they will support child labour because more child means more labour and more
labour means more money.
That's why the child labour is one of the
controversial topic.
--> Now we will see the nature of child work---
Again this child work is also a
controversial topic because some parents thinks that child work will disturb
the
ongoing education and spoil his/her exam results.
Here we will look at some positive points related to child work---
(i) child work in free time contributes to
child development.
(ii) child work provides all-round
development and unlock multiple talents
hidden within the child .
(iii) child can learn the power of
balancing between school education and his
hobby .
E. Steps for controlling child labour and child work.:-
(i)
government needs to strictly applied the
child labour laws.
(ii) everyone has their
rights for getting education , here the government needs to
provide
free and compulsory
education to all
the children of
age
between 6 to 14.
(iii) government must help
the poor to overcome the poverty because about one third ( 1/3 )
of the family's income earning comes the child
labour.
(iv) the Indian society
needs to eliminate the caste system because most of the
people stills belief that lower caste must
practice small labour type job like
Servants ,cobbler, sweeper etc etc and
the upper caste will do the noble and
clerical job.

At last it can be concluded
that problems of child labour is still a burning issue in the 21st century all
over the world.
