A. Introduction:-

      The autonomy word is very similar to the word freedom although the freedom is a very broad meaning term , autonomy is generally related to administrative field where self governance is the prime focus.
       
       Here we will discuss the meaning of autonomy ,the difference between freedom and autonomy ,teacher autonomy , etc etc in the below section








B. Meaning of autonomy:-




Learner's autonomy :- Its means learner are responsible for making decisions related to his/her learning choices.

 
Teacher's autonomy :- Its means teacher are responsible for making decisions related to his/her teaching.

E. What is teacher's autonomy and what is not included in teacher's autonomy


  In the previous pages we have seen meaning of learner's autonomy and teacher's autonomy, we will discuss more about teacher's autonomy in the below section----
 
 Teacher's autonomy :- Its means teacher are responsible for making decisions related to his/her teaching 
 or
    
Teacher's autonomy refers to the professional Independence to take own decision in terms of teaching.
 
    There should not be too much interference in the work of a teacher by higher authorities.
 
    Sometimes the higher authorities  forces  the Teachers to follow general rules and laws of the schools and colleges , their aim to finish the syllabus as fast as possible.


 

 Teacher's autonomy includes---

  ---> freedom of teaching
  ---> freedom of communication with the students
  ---> little bit freedom of participation in the college internal matters.


 

What is not included in teacher's autonomy ----

  ---> teacher's autonomy does not includes the complete independence and controls
  over the school/college
  ---> teacher's autonomy does not includes any extra responsibilities towards the school/college

 




F. Characteristics of teacher's autonomy

  ---> Its promotes self- directed teaching.

  ---> Its develop appropriate skills ,knowledge , understanding attitude ,

       communication skills, professional development etc  etc. 

   ---> it's also reduces the fear and pressure in the teaching profession , teacher

       must be in his/her comfortable zone while teaching. 









G. Domains of teacher's autonomy :-

    Here the term 'domain ' means area of influence or simply jurisdiction,

Teaching and assessment :- The teacher should have autonomy to teach and evaluate and assess their students in  his/her comfort zone.

 

Curriculum development:- Teacher should have autonomy to express his/her opinion towards framework development of school/college curriculum.

 

Professional development:- it contains all the professional and in-service programs, these are very helpful for enhancing the skills and knowledge.

 

School/college functioning;- teacher must have autonomy to express his/her opinion with the functioning and managing of school/college.







H. Ways to develop teacher's autonomy :-

  ---> teachers must consult to their higher authority about autonomy.

  ---> teachers can take feedback from their peer groups to enhance the autonomy.

 



I. Conclusion:-

        The at last it can be concluded that autonomy should be given to teachers because it is the teacher's duty to educate the students, if the teacher is under fear and pressure then he may lose his/her efficiency.
